Facts about Color Printers

Facts about Color PrintersColor printers are the newest rave in office equipment.  With prices slowly coming down, now might be the ideal time to make that purchase.  Before you buy that color printer, there are few important facts that you should know to help you make that decision.

Quality of copies needed
What type of copies you need can effect your buying decision (inkjet versus laser color printer).  If you need to print out a lot of power point presentations that contain lots of color graphs, you might want to consider a color inkjet printer rather than a color laser printer.  That’s because inkjet printer resolution is clearer than laser resolution.  However, the gap is decreasing and with some models, you may not even notice the difference between the quality of an inkjet printer copy and a laser-produced copy.
On the other hand, it might not be worth the extra money to spend on a color laser printer instead of a color laser printer if quality is not your number one concern.

Warranties
The cheaper color printers come with a basic, one-year warranty.  After that, you’re on your own if a part breaks down.  Repairing some of these lower priced color printers might not even be worth it.  If you don’t care about spending money on a color printer every few years, then consider one of the cheaper models. However, if you would rather have a warranty that covers parts and labor for more than a year, consider an upgraded model.  It might cost you more to purchase, but in the long run, you won’t have to buy a new printer every few years.

Reliability
Reliability cannot always be judged on price.  In other words, just because a color printer costs more, doesn’t mean it’s more reliable.  You can easily check a color printer’s overall reliability by checking such resources as consumer reports.  Or you can ask other offices in your building or other contacts that you might have.  Sometimes vendors even allow you test out a model for a few weeks before purchase if you’re not sure which model to buy.  Usually, these are vendors that have already leased you a copier in the past and are looking to upgrade your printer.
